On home buying
July 5, 2009 on 7:22 pm | In Uncategorized |So now that I’m finished with school, it’s on to the next goal: buying a home. We’re saving up our money over the summer and we’re going to see what we can get in the fall. We aren’t sure yet whether to get a house or a townhouse/condo. There are benefits to both, but I think we’re leaning toward the second option more; for one, we wouldn’t have to worry about yard work, so that would be nice, what with Brandon being busy in the PhD program and me hating yard work. Plus we’re more likely to have things like a pool and other perks, and less likely to worry about things like holes in the roof. And our neighbors would have a heightened interest in assisting us if our place caught on fire.
We’ve glanced around at homes on realtor websites (which is funner to pronounce as REAL-TOR, as if it’s a dinosaur), so we kind of have an idea of what we’ll have to choose from. By the by, the term “great for first-time home buyers!” means that the place is a hole. Just so you know.
As we were driving around glancing at homes the other day, we saw a sign that said “DREAM HOME THIS WAY!!!” So of course, we drove that way because THAT IS TOTALLY WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR!!! Turns out that it certainly was a dream home, provided that your dream home has three bedrooms, one tiny bathroom with painfully pink tiles, a cumbersome layout, a tiny kitchen, striped wallpaper, a lavender bedroom, and a back yard that strongly resembles a jungle. I realize that most of those issues can be easy (and relatively cheap) to fix. However, I’d say it’s an enormous leap to describe this place as a DREAM HOME, all caps.
My dream home would have at least two bathrooms.
