Going Away for a Little While
February 27, 2007 on 1:28 pm | In blogging | 5 CommentsI’m kind of burnt out on the whole blogging thing right now. I know I’m totally the first to scold other bloggers when they whine that no one comments on their blogs, and I say that you shouldn’t be blogging just for comments, which is true. But it does get mighty dull without any feedback.
I’ve been way more busy lately. Work is getting busier, Brandon and I have actually been developing non-online friendships (I know, the idea!). We’ve also been preparing to move into our new apartment, which won’t happen until May, but planning ahead helps when you hate where you live as much as we presently do. I also took an editing/proofreading class at Emory Center for Lifelong Learning. So. All that to say I’m slowly but surely developing the semblance of a life.
Anyway. I don’t mean to get all dramatic on your behind and say that I’m giving up blogging. I’m just going on hiatus. Maybe when I come back I’ll have a new zest for blogging. I do love to write. But it kind of feels wasted in this medium. Maybe during my little hiatus I’ll figure out how to get my blogging groove back. Until then, keep it real.
Fried Chicken Loves You Too
February 21, 2007 on 2:25 pm | In random | 1 CommentBrandon gave me some Dove chocolate on V-day. I love me some Dove chocolate. So rich, smooth, and chocolatey. Anyway, if you’ve eaten Dove chocolates before, you’ve seen the little messages inside the wrapping. Which you’ve probably mocked if you’re anything like me. Here are some examples of the messages:
- Wear red today.
- Be mysterious.
- Wink at someone today.
- Be your own Valentine.
- Linger over chocolate longer.
- Get swept away by love.
- Laugh until your heart overflows.
- Sleep beneath the stars tonight.
- Chocolate always loves you back.
That last one really got me. It’s exactly how people who overeat feel. Food is my friend. Food will never mock me or tell me I’m fat or clear small children out of the pool when I go to dive in. Chocolate always loves you back. Hmmph.
Any time I read the Dove messages, I picture an obese spinster lady in her mid 40s sitting around eating chocolate with her eight cats (I love cats, just not in excess) while watching Oprah on TV and seriously considering these suggestions. Which could result in her acting mysterious and winking at people. Sleeping beneath the stars in the apartment’s courtyard. You get the idea. Good fun!
Nice Site!
February 20, 2007 on 1:09 pm | In random | 2 CommentsI’ve been getting some of the nicest comment spam lately. I mean, spam sucks and all, but at least the spammers have learned to be complimentary in their spamming activities. Flattery will, of course, get them nowhere. But still. It’s good to hear “nice site!” every now and then, even if it’s an attempt to sell viagra or advertise mortgage rates.
Dead Presidents
February 16, 2007 on 2:22 pm | In holiday | No CommentsI’m all about Presidents Day. Three-day weekend, extra sleep, what’s not to love? Oh, and I get to celebrate… Uh, the awesomeness of those presidents who made this country what it is. It’s Lincoln and Washington, right? Yes, I could look it up. But I’m pretty sure it’s them.
How do you celebrate Presidents Day anyway? I guess you could wear a big top hat and make speeches. And buy stuff at the Presidents Day sales. And maybe have a portrait painted in your honor, because presidents like that sort of thing. Anyway, however you celebrate, enjoy your weekend.
Heartfelt Pizza

Happy V-day!
February 14, 2007 on 9:27 am | In random, holiday | No CommentsWhether you love it or hate it, it’s Valentine’s day again. Brandon and I went out to eat last night to celebrate, which was nice because the restaurant was empty. Seriously. For most of our meal, we were the only people there. Which is odd, because a few years ago we heard a report that the day before Valentine’s day was the day that most men took their mistresses out to dinner. But I guess since wives have wisened up due to that report, cheaters have had to pick a different day.
This is the first time I’ve worked in a large office on V-day, and so I’m wondering how fierce the competition between women will be when it comes to appearing loved. Y’know, with the flowers and such being delivered to them. So far, not a lot of activity. But it’s early yet.
So anyway, happy Valentine’s day. Hope you get lots of candy and flowers and feel extra loved today. And if you’re anti-Vday, I hope you are successful in bursting the bubbles of those who have been taken in by this Hallmark holiday. And then get candy on sale later.
Making Friends
February 12, 2007 on 2:22 pm | In conversations | No CommentsHere’s a google talk conversation Brandon and I had regarding our neighbors. I assigned them different names so that it’ll be harder for them to find this site and realize what dorks we are.
me: i saw john and jane on my way to my car
brandonw: did you say hi?
me: no. i stopped, picked up a stick, and ran after them, swinging at them and cursing
brandonw: good job
me: john tripped, and i got him pretty well
brandonw: awesome
me: if it weren’t for his incessant crying and pleading “please no,” i would have done more
brandonw: what a wimp
me: nah, i said hi. they said they were on their way to look at houses.
brandonw: oh, i thought they had already found one
me: yeah… didn’t have time to ask
just said “well, have fun! see you later”
brandonw: ![]()
me: had to hurry and get back to work. plus, i didn’t want them to notice how tree-like i’m dressed today
That’s right, I’m rocking the green sweater and brown pants combo. Happy Monday.
In Case You Have Time to Kill
February 8, 2007 on 9:33 am | In random, entertainment | 3 CommentsDinosaur Comics. So funny. Each strip is exactly the same drawings with different dialogue. The dinosaurs (T-rex, Dromiceiomimus, and Utahraptor) discuss philosophy, stomp things, act out compressed films, make confessions, and live each day to the max.
Good One.
February 6, 2007 on 8:56 pm | In Uncategorized | No CommentsOn Saturday my sister and I were in our hometown for various reasons, and we stopped by her friend’s house on the way back to Auburn. And guess what? She has a cat! A cute, sweet, orange and white cat named Meow. And so, while Brandi played with her friend’s kids, I became fast friends with Meow. We understood each other. We bonded. And then. I started sneezing. And my eyes got watery. And the snotting, it was notable.
Oh you have got to be kidding. I’m allergic to cats?!
This can’t be. I’ve been around cats all of my life. There was never a point in my early life when there weren’t kittens around. We had outside cats that weren’t neutered, so kittens happened. I had Sutty (pronounced sooty), my beloved obese kitty, for fourteen years, though three of those years we had a long-distance relationship. I love cats, I always have. In fact, when my first boyfriend asked me who I loved more, him or Sutty, I paused for a while. And then I answered, Sutty. Not surprisingly, we didn’t last two months.
Anyway, how could this be? Can you simply become allergic to an animal? And why, why, why am I having this reaction to cats, and not dogs? Well?
I told Brandon that I couldn’t help thinking, “Good one, God.” Because I mean, if this really is so, then he did it. He does everything. Brandon said that this is what I get for placing my hope and happiness on getting a cat. Maybe God wants me to put him first, and so he’s taking away the cat thing. I told him that’s the classic Christian cop-out for when things get crappy.
Seriously. If you know me, you know that this is equivalent to a totally maternal chick being told she’s allergic to babies.
Why can’t I just be allergic to babies? And dogs. That, I can handle.
Happy Thursday
February 1, 2007 on 8:51 am | In weather | No CommentsI’d been given a heads up by coworkers that things get a little crazy around here during proposal season - which generally lasts from March to September. Except this year it ran a little later. And it seems to be starting a little earlier. Things have been much more busy as of this week, so I haven’t exactly had time to read blogs that I want to or write things that I want to.
But it’s cool, because I really like my job. So anyway, hope things are going well for everyone. Did I mention it’s totally cold today, and rainy? Well it is. And guess who left their umbrella at work? Oh, and guess who dropped their beloved purse in a puddle while making a mad dash to the door? That’s right, me! Happy Thursday, everyone. Happy Thursday indeed.
